Community College Art

How I discovered that art isn't just for geniuses... or maybe I just finally realized I'm a genius?

Dear Best Friends,

One of the biggest factors in deciding to pursue art as a (part-time) profession was taking classes at Portland Community College. I have it on good authority that PCC in particular has a really great art department, but I think the key was just actually learning how to do art beyond doodling and cutting up and gluing bits of magazines.

I started taking the art classes to complete the pre-requisites for an art therapy program (I was looking at Lewis & Clark’s program). You need to both have a certain number of art credits including drawing, a human-figure class in specific, painting, and ceramics. You also need to have a portfolio of 10-15 pieces of art, I guess to prove that you learned something in all the classes you took.
